The graveyard was named after one of the sons of this important family from Cienfuegos, who died when he was a teenager. No member of the Acea family was buried here.

Despite being built for poor people, the cemetery has monumental sculptures made of high-quality Carrara marble, brought from Italy.

Engineers Pablo Donato Carbonell and Luis Felipe Ros designed and conducted the works.

The cemetery, also called garden-cemetery, was inspired graveyards from the United States and Europe, and its vaults, mausoleums, and tombs harmonize with the landscape.

Its vegetation has been planned in sectors that delimit the areas, taking advantage of the undulations of the terrain. We can see that the avenues filled with fruit and ornamental trees bear the names of their plants: Pines, Cedars, Palms, Oaks, Poplars avenues, among others.

The Tomás Acea Cemetery is the burial place of prominent historic, cultural, and scientific figures from Cienfuegos.

It stands out by the impressive façade of the central building, which is an eloquent expression of the architecture of the Republican period in Cuba.
