CubaCoop demands French banks stop bowing to US blockade against Cuba

Paris, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) The Cuba Cooperation France Association (CubaCoop) asked President Emmanuel Macron on Friday to act so that French banks stop bowing to the extraterritoriality of the United States blockade against Cuba.

In a letter addressed to Macron, to which Prensa Latina had access, CubaCoop President Víctor Fernández asked him to implement only French and European Union (EU) laws for banks in the country.

French banks must stop submitting to foreign extraterritorial regulations that aim to circumvent European legislation, so that our Association and others can develop their work without obstacles,” Fernández stressed.

The letter comes in response to information received by CubaCoop from the Banque Populaire Rives de Paris in early August, which notified the closure of the solidarity group’s current account.

Fernandez explained to Macron that even though the institution did not officially argue its decision, everything indicates that it responds to the extraterritoriality of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than six decades, and in particular to its inclusion in Washington’s unilateral State Sponsors of Terrorism list.

The Association’s president recalled that for 30 years France has supported a resolution presented annually at the United Nations General Assembly on the necessity of ending the US blockade against Cuba.
