Former Salvadoran president denies links to scandal

San Salvador, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) Former Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes denied having links to the scandal involving the former national security advisor of President Nayib Bukele and former Congressman Erick Garcia.

“Neither have I talked with Muyshondt nor has he leaked me any secret documents. They are expecting something that has never happened. My informants are others whom they cannot even imagine,” Funes said on his social media account.

On Wednesday, President Bukele revealed on social media the plot that accuses Alejandro Muyshondt of helping Funes to evade justice and not be captured.

The president says that his former advisor threatened to publish real, incomplete and other false evidence.

The former official was captured on Wednesday and placed at the disposal of justice, while the Legislative Assembly began a pre-trial of Garcia, who was expelled from the New Ideas party.

The situation exposed by Bukele on social media is today relevant in the written press and Salvadoran television news.
