According to media reports here, this position was expressed by Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations Office and international organizations in Vienna, Hassan Khaddour, before the meetings of the first session of the Preparatory Committee for the Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons held there.
It is necessary to implement the resolution adopted at the Infinite Review and Extension Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 1995, which stipulates making the Middle East free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, the diplomat said.
He clarified that all Arab countries have become parties to the said Treaty while Tel Aviv remains the only one in the region that has not joined and all its nuclear activities and facilities are outside any international monitoring system.
