The issue came to light at a meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by President Xiomara Castro, who criticized the neoliberal administrations for abandoning Honduran schools.
“Not a single school was repaired in 12 years; we will provide the quality education that our children need. The demand that they have a decent school, thank God we can achieve it,” the president said.
The Executive Decree makes operational the framework agreement for institutional cooperation between the presidency and the Association of Municipalities of Honduras.
The document authorizes the Ministry of Finance to identify values for an amount of up to two billion lempiras (nearly 81,500,000 US dollars) in the general income and expense budget.
Press reports indicate that the program to intervene in schools will be in charge of the General Directorate of school buildings and real estate, attached to the Ministry of Education of Honduras.
