It is estimated that six million unsafe cars circulate in Canada

Ottawa, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The federal agency Transport Canada estimated today that some 6.6 million unsafe cars are currently circulating in the country's highways, which could endanger other road users.

Despite having safety recall orders, one in five of the 33 million vehicles registered since 2019 are still on Canada’s roads, the department estimated.

“Unresolved safety issues affecting automobiles, child and disabled person restraints, and tires can lead to property damage, injury, or even death,” the analysis stated.

Faced with the situation, the department proposed new rules requiring companies that issue a security recall to quickly post related information on their website to raise awareness and fix the flaw.

The regulations would also require auto companies to provide a vehicle inspection number lookup tool on their digital pages to provide data on recalls.

Speaking of the report, Canadian Automobile Association vice president of public affairs Ian Jack said only a minority of owners know about recall orders, especially if the car is secondhand. ef/ro/ifs
