Mami Mizutori, special representative of the United Nations General Secretariat for this sphere, affirmed at the opening of the event that the development of the meeting is a testimony of the commitment of the G20 to finally react towards the efficient management of the aspects that cause large-scale events. She also made an urgent call to improve resources and capacities for risk prevention and reduction.

Mizutori explained that the climate crisis intensifies the importance of integrating the database of classification of natural hazards and climate risks known as DRR in all aspects of planning.

According to All India Radio news, the participants agreed on this first day to incorporate DRR into policies, investment decisions, as well as standards, regulations and legislative frameworks in all sectors, particularly infrastructure. They also ratified their commitment to strengthen collaboration with the private sector, capital market players, technology providers and civil society organizations, with the aim of taking advantage of best practices.

According to the press, the deliberations were firm in the resolution to perfect alliances with developing countries in search of their resilience to disasters, since these States are the most vulnerable and affected. The meeting should conclude next Wednesday with a statement of commitments and recommendations on global coverage of early warning systems, climate and disaster resilient infrastructure, financing framework for risk reduction and ecosystem approach to DRR.
