Cuban jurists urge to raise awareness of human trafficking

Havana, Jul 21 (Prensa Latina) Jurists, representatives of civil society organizations and the media in Cuba on Friday agreed on the pressing need to raise awareness of human trafficking, as a pivotal element to crack down on it.

During a debate at the headquarters of the Cuban Association of the United Nations, participants pointed out that even though this phenomenon has no strong presence in Cuba, it is crucial to prevent human trafficking through knowledge.

According to a study by researchers from the Ministry of Justice (MINJUST), there is still confusion about human trafficking, in addition to the fact that 50% of those interviewed stated they had little information, particularly about victim assistance services.

Deputy Chairman of the Cuban Society of Criminal Sciences Arnel Cuenca, Ph.D., assured these are two essential elements to fight off human trafficking, insisting on the significance of being aware in order to identify this phenomenon, which can even occur in the environment of our community.
