The residents in the city of Hasakeh and its surroundings are deprived of water due to the practices by the Turkish and US military forces and their extremist militias and mercenary separatists, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced.

The Foreign Ministry assured that such practices are a war crime and a crime against humanity, and a serious threat to public health, especially in the middle of the unprecedented increase in temperatures in the region.

The occupying powers use water as a weapon of war and a tool to achieve political purposes, which is why we call on the United Nations to take immediate and effective measures to stop this flagrant violation of international law and all international conventions and standards, the statement added.

It also demanded that workers and technicians from government institutions be allowed accessing the Aluk plant to do repairs and ensure the resumption of water pumping.

The Ministry stressed Syria’s demand to end the illegal presence of US and Turkish troops, restore the authority of the State and resume the work of its official institutions in the north, northeast and northwest of the country, as this is the only way to end the people’s suffering.

Syria has repeatedly condemned what it has called a “water war” by the Turkish government, which is depriving hundreds of thousands of people of water in the city of Hasakeh, in addition to reducing the flow of the Euphrates River, which has left considerable damage for three million Syrians who live from farming in Raqqa, Hasakeh and Deir Ezzor.
