Buenos Aires, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) Argentina continues to deepen its relations with Latin America and Europe, President Alberto Fernández assured today, when taking stock of the 3rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of both regions, held in Brussels, Belgium.

We concluded the meeting of the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) after two intense days of work. The results were more than satisfactory. (…) Strengthening multilateralism is the way for our growth and development, he stated in his profile on the social network Twitter.

Through dialogue, we share our vision of the global context and reach very important agreements for Argentina and the region, he added.

In addition, he highlighted the motion adopted by the leaders on the Malvinas Islands.

Our claim to sovereignty, through peaceful means and through dialogue, remains intact, he affirmed.

According to the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Relations, for the first time in the history of bi-regional relations, the EU officially recognizes in a joint declaration the position of Celac with respect to the islands.

Both parties also highlighted the proclamation and preservation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

The foreign minister of this nation, Santiago Cafiero, assured that, after this pronouncement, the Fernández government expects to deepen the dialogue with the European bloc on the Falklands.

The text represents a new appeal from the international community to the United Kingdom to agree to fulfill its obligation to resume negotiations with Argentina, he asserted.

In its Constitution, this country ratifies its “imprescriptible sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the corresponding maritime and insular spaces”.

The recovery of these areas, respecting the way of life of its inhabitants and in accordance with international principles and laws, constitute a permanent and inalienable objective of the people of this nation, says the Magna Carta.

On several occasions, Cafiero denounced the illegal occupation of the islands by the United Kingdom since 1833 and London’s refusal to return to the negotiating table.
