Earthquake shook Guatemala and other Central American countries

Guatemala City, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) Yesterday, an official source informed that a 6.2 earthquake,on the Richter scale, shook Guatemala, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico.

The tremor occurred at 18:28, local time, and the epicenter was located at a depth of 25 kilometers in the Mesoamerican trench, 254 kilometers from the Department of Jutiapa, said the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology.

The authorities of the affected nations have not yet confirmed deaths, injuries or damages, while users reported the event on social networks.

The earthquake was felt in this capital city, where it moved buildings in, San Lucas Sacatepéquez, Mixco and Villanueva, as well as in other parts of southwestern Guatemala.

Authorities here reminded the measures to follow, in the occurrence of this type of phenomenon, such as moving away from windows, stairs and shelves and standing next to columns and in case of workplace sactivating the business response plan .

In the early morning of February 16, the strongest earthquake of this year (6.8) took place, which left structural damages and three deaths in this Central American territory.
