Marrero assured on Twitter that he is devoting his constant attention to the recovery process of those injured in the fire.
According to a report by the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the shipyard´s warehouse had over a hundred tanks of chemicals and containers with other compounds.
The fire started off after 5:00 a.m., local time, as the staff on duty were at the site only.
Manzanillo Fire Department immediately went to the scene, and with the help of workers and cars from the Sierra Maestra International Airport, they managed to dowse the flames.
Thanks to their quick maneuver, it was possible to prevent the fire from spreading to fuel tanks and industrial gas sources located in the nearby Empresa Cubana de Lubricantes (Cubalub) and Unión Cuba Petróleo (Cupet).
Injured firefighters are presently receiving specialized healthcare at the Celia Sánchez Manduley Clinical-Surgical Hospital. According to a medical report, four of them remain under observation, with minor injuries; meanwhile the fifth firefighter is reported as seriously-ill, but not life-threatening.
