African leaders seek mechanisms to solve Sudanese crisis

Cairo, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) Several African leaders, who are meeting in this capital, warned about the regional consequences of the combats in Sudan, and called to seek ways to end the conflict.

At the opening of a summit of neighboring countries of Sudan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that the meeting aims to “unify the vision and make decisions to resolve the crisis, in coordination with the African Union and the Arab League.”

I call to create a communication mechanism to engage directly with all parties in the conflict, he stressed.

El-Sisi emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of the war in order to reach a comprehensive political solution.

He also called on the warring parties to facilitate the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors to deliver aid and begin serious negotiations for a permanent ceasefire.

The President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, in turn, affirmed that the conflict there poses a threat to the stability of the area and hinders economic development.

The repercussions of the war in Sudan go beyond its borders, he said.

In a similar vein, the head of State of South Sudan, Salva Kiir, highlighted the consequences of the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.

Our priorities include finding African solutions to the continent’s crises, he said.
