As reported on Telegram by the former president, this would be the appropriate response to the recent Ukrainian bombardment using cluster munitions against the Tokmak settlement in the Zaporozhie region.
Medvedev also evaluated the “preliminary results of the NATO summit in Vilnius, where they decided to cancel the fast action plan for Ukraine’s entry into the alliance.
“They are calling (Ukraine) into NATO, but they will not accept it, it is unknown when and under what conditions (Ukraine will be accepted),” Medvedev said, and added that he considers it “quite likely” that Ukraine will never join the alliance, but in reality the bloc’s leaders are afraid to speak it out in a loud voice.
In his opinion, NATO decided to step up supplying Ukraine “with everything possible: missiles, cluster munitions, planes”, and have painted themselves into a corner, where there is a latent danger of World War Three.”
This means that “the special military operation will continue with the same objectives, and one of them is the refusal of (allowing) the current Kiev government to become a member of NATO, which we insisted on from the beginning.”
According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, sending cluster munitions to Kiev will only serve to prolong the conflict, and in the event Ukraine uses them, Moscow will have to use similar weapons against the Ukrainian Armed Forces in response.
