Writer and journalist Raúl Pérez Peña pointed out that in spite of the blockade and the “sanctions” imposed by the United States, the Cuban people reinvent themselves in politics and sports.

In his column Pancarta, Peña wrote that, in the political sphere, the leadership of Miguel Díaz Canel and all the leadership of the Cuban Revolution have demonstrated an extraordinary capacity to reinvent themselves.

This is proved by the recent parliamentary elections and the adoption of the Family Code, said Peña, who was also the editor of the newspaper’s cultural supplement in the 1980s.

In sports, despite precariousness and the co-optation policy of imperialism, he pointed out, Cuban athletes stand out at international competitions, demonstrating determination and exceptional skills.

Peña concluded that these experiences, based on the example of Commander Fidel Castro (the historic leader of the Revolution), teach us that those external limitations are not insurmountable barriers when there is a will and creativity to find solutions.
