This is one of the five hospitals in the country that benefit from the promotion project of hospital digitalization in diagnostic imaging.
This project aims to improve the quality of diagnosis and the efficiency of hospital operations by digitizing the information needed to pinpoint diseases such as X-ray images, as well as building a LAN system to enable medical staff to share information.
The provision of 150 suiwch and 100 PCs for the five hospitals involved in the project represents the continuity of a previous effort of Japanese cooperation.
This project provided 34 Cuban health institutions with equipment for anatomic pathology and imaging services for an amount of $10 million, said Tania Margarita Cruz, first Deputy Public Health Minister.
Dr. Cruz claimed that bilateral Japan-Cuba relations are being strengthened on the basis of mutual respect and solidarity cooperation amid the international economic crisis, the post-pandemic era and the tightening of the hostile and unjust U.S. blockade that is severely impacting on Cuba´s health system.
The Japanese Ambassador to Cuba Hirata Kenji, on the other hand, expressed his deep satisfaction with JICA´s contribution to digitalization in Cuba´s health sector, which has a positive impact on quality of services for patients.
Surgical Clinical University Hospital’s Director Mirtha Miranda stressed that thanks to this collaboration they have been able to implement new technologies, improve medical care standards and expand capacities.
According to Dr. Abel Fernández, head of Imaging Service at the Fajardo Hospital, this is a “very good experience; it is a strength to have a digital system within the hospital”.
