Hosted at the National Hotel, the Meeting is being held as part of the 14th Convention on Environment and Development.
Exchanges will be focusing on impacts of climate change on biodiversity, economy, society, food security and health, bringing about serious aftermaths requiring attention and cooperation.
Cuba is hosting this meeting as president pro tempore of the G77+China, which aims to approve a concluding statement to take action against climate change, land degradation and pollution, and also in favor of biodiversity protection.
It will also propose the promotion of unity, solidarity and international cooperation, and work to carry out projects from the South, in support of the recovery of ecosystems after the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the organizing committee, the statement will boost the use of science, technology and innovation for sustainable, inclusive and resilient development for all people.
This year’s edition will also include congresses on Environmental Education for Sustainable Development, Protected Areas, Environmental Management, Ecosystem and Biodiversity Management, Climate Change, Environmental Policy, Justice and Law, Geospatial Sciences and Disaster Risk, and a colloquium on Transportation and Environment.
It´s a great opportunity for Cuba to show the entire world results of great impact in managing ecosystems, biodiversity and climate change, Maritza García, president of the Environment Agency of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, told Prensa Latina.
