Cuba develops innovative products for economic benefit

Matanzas, Cuba, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) The Center of Anticorrosives and Surfactants (CEAT), attached to the Cuban University of Matanzas, is developing innovative products to eradicate corrosion in metallic structures, in order to benefit the national economy.

According to the website www.radio26.cu, among CEAT’s leading products are phosphate solutions that make it possible to clean surfaces affected rust deposited on steel.

Harold García, director of the Development and Innovation Unit of the Anticorrosive and Surfactant Center, explained that in Cuba corrosion is a very violent phenomenon because several factors combine to accelerate it, including proximity to the sea, temperatures and relative humidity, hence the vital importance of these solutions.

Another type of coating in great demand in Cuba are the conservation greases that act in structures with hollow components, stored parts and closed areas and their use extends the useful life of the materials to which they are applied, he said.

Garcia added that CEAT is currently working on the production of conservation greases for sugar mills because in these industries there are elements that often decompose in acid, which makes conservation difficult.
