According to the vice presidency of the country, this symbolic gesture seeks the recognition and celebration of diversity by sexual orientation and gender identity, and an opportunity to make visible and promote the effective guarantee of the rights of these people, who are now recognized as subjects of special constitutional protection.
The vice presidency invited citizens to join the exchange of knowledge and expertise that the Management of Sexual Diversity and LGBTIQ+ Rights of this State agency, promotes to work to guarantee the rights of the entire population, as well as to listen to the requests, dreams, claims and desires of this community.
It added that, from that management was born #SúmateALaRutaDiversa, a strategy that in addition to commemorating the LGBTIQ+ Pride month tries to build bridges of communication between the different regions.
LGBTIQ+ Pride month contributes to the construction of a more inclusive, just and respectful society, where all people can live freely and with dignity, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The Colombian Foreign Ministry also displayed the flag that identifies Colombia to commemorate the lives of LGBTIQ+ people who have been victims of hate crimes.
