The statement notes that the measure was also taken for the Voronezh region, Rostov-on-Don and Lipetsk, where the authorities decided to cancel all mass events.
Rostov-on-Don Governor Vasily Golubev urged local residents to remain calm and not to leave their homes unless necessary, as the current situation requires a maximum concentration of all forces to maintain order.
“The law enforcement are taking all the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of the inhabitants of the region,” he stressed.
Several audio recordings with statements by the founder of the Wagner group, Evgeny Prigozhin, were previously published on his Telegram channel.
Prigozhin claimed that Wagner’s units were attacked in their rear camps and accused the Russian Defense Ministry of carrying out this aggression.
In an address to the nation, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the call for an armed rebellion organized by the head of the Wagner Group, Evgeni Prigozhin, as treason motivated by “exorbitant ambitions.”
The Russian Federal Security Service opened a criminal case against Prigozhin for calling for an armed rebellion.
