The organization issued a statement entitled “With the truth, for peace and justice” rejecting the words of the congressman, who declared during a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee that President Joe Biden should attack Cuba for the alleged existence of Chinese military assets in its territory.

According to REDH, Gaetz expressed that he supported “an authorization for the use of military force to remove Chinese military assets in Cuba” while the committee discussed amendments to its National Defense Law.

The proclamation recalled that earlier this month the Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Fernández de Cossío publicly denied the information on the subject published in the US press, which lacked any evidence.

It emphasized that Cuba, in addition to being a sovereign country, is a signatory to international agreements, and consequently rejects the foreign military presence in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Network expressed its support for Fernández de Cossío’s words about Cuba’s rejection of “all foreign military presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, including that of numerous United States military bases and troops, especially the military base that it occupies illegally a portion of the national territory in the province of Guantánamo”.

The proclamation stressed that “Latin America as a zone of peace” is not a mere slogan, and warned that the threat against Cuba constitutes a threat against all peoples and against the world.

Cuba has suffered from the interventionism and invasive actions of the United States since its inception as a nation and the constant aggression intensified after the revolutionary triumph of January 1st, 1959, a policy that has not changed, as evidenced by the new threat to apply military force, and the blockade implemented by the US Government against Cuba.
