The asessment was made during a meeting between the ministers of Defense of Vietnam, General Phan Van Giang, and of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (MINFAR), Army General Corps Álvaro López Miera, who is holding a working visit to Vietnam.
During the talks on Thursday, Van Giang highlighted the significance of the presence of the MINFAR delegation in the context of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first trip of Fidel Castro to Vietnam, and to the Quang Tri a Liberated Zone in South Vietnam.
The visit will contribute to further consolidate ties of special friendship existing between both peoples and armies, said the Vietnamese Defense Minister, who ratified that Vietnam will always stand shoulder to shoulder with Cuba and will support it on the path of national construction and development.
López Miera, expressed gratitude to Vietnam for accompanying and supporting his country and advocated to continue to intensify cooperation in potential sectors, stimulate the exchange of delegations of different levels and experts, training and preservation of historical memories.
The two ministers agreed to emphasize collaboration in the exchange of professional experiences, the defense industry, human resources training, military medicine, and political and Party affairs. They also signed a cooperation plan for the 2023-2025 period.
The Minister of MINFAR also held meetings yesterday with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, and with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, in which Vietnam’s invariable solidarity towards Cuba was revealed.
López Miera and his delegation were also received by the head of the General Political Department of the People’s Army of Vietnam, General Luong Cuong, and by the Chief of the General Staff and Vice Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong.
