Bolsonaro declines to go to trial against him in Brazil

Brasilia, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday declined to go to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to follow the trial against him for attacks to the electoral system, which may disable him from holding public office for eight years.

According to G1 site, Bolsonaro then made up his mind to travel to Rio Grande do Sul in order to strengthen the Liberal Party (PL).

The source assures this change took advisors by surprise. One of them made a joke by saying, “Bolsonaro’s remote control is the same as the submarine next to the Titanic.”

However, his denial would rather cause relief to his advisors since “his attendance to the TSE is a risk of unnecessary negative exposure, while a reception at an airport may generate a positive image.”

G1 indicates that some PL members hope that Minister Kassio Nunes Marques, appointed by Bolsonaro to the Supreme Federal Court (STF), will show his gratitude and vote in favor of former president to avoid a 7-0 defeat.

At the trial, the Electoral Deputy Attorney General Paulo Gonet defended Bolsonaro’s ineligibility for abuse of political power.
