During the meeting, the feeling of solidarity and brotherhood that exists in the governments and peoples of Cuba and Syria was highlighted.
Several initiatives were discussed to strengthen the exchanges of opinions in sectors of interest to both peoples.
Lawmaker Mohamed Jray, head of the said Group, highlighted the excellent political ties between the two nations and called for the reactivation of the exchange of parliamentary delegations, in order to investigate the fields of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Jray pointed out that the Friendship Group that he heads is the largest in the People’s Assembly, with 20 deputies, thus reflecting Syria’s interest and the importance it grants to its relations with Cuba.
The Cuban ambassador, in turn, thanked the representatives of the Friendship Association for their systematic support in denouncing the genocidal blockade of the United States and its list of alleged sponsors of terrorism, on which the Syrian Arab Republic is also included.
The diplomat called for taking concrete steps in cooperation to achieve mutual benefit particularly in the fields of education, health care, science, agriculture, sports and culture.
Deep friendship, unconditional solidarity and unchanging common positions have marked nearly six decades of relations between Syria and Cuba, which began on August 11, 1965.
