The Chilean Meteorological Administration (CMC) assured that the latest forecasts showed a 90 percent chance of the presence of the El Niño phenomenon, which will cause numerous rains in the central and southern regions of that country.
The Ministry of Health called on the population to take care of itself in view of the active presence of microorganisms, such as syncytial and influenza.
Ximena Aguilera, Minister of Health, reminded that this month there was a severe outbreak of respiratory diseases in children under five years old, with the death of several of them and the overcrowding of pediatric intensive care services.
Aguilera pointed out that although there has been a decrease in the number of infections and serious cases, the event could be repeated at any time.
As a preventive measure, the use of sanitary masks was made mandatory in schools and it was recommended to carry them in public transportation units, where they are offered free of charge to those who require them.
