Ethiopia and Kenya agree on fighting terrorism and human trafficking

Etiopia-Kenya-1
Addis Ababa, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia and Kenya have agreed to jointly prevent terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling and the illegal movement of cattle in border areas, the local Police revealed.

A delegation led by the Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian Federal Police and Chairman of the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization, General Demelash Gebre-Michael, made a two-day official working visit to Nairobi to hold talks with the authorities of Kenya.

Gebre-Michael discussed the aforementioned issues with the Inspector General of the Kenyan National Police Service and president of the General Assembly of Afripol, General Japhet Kume, and they agreed to address the crimes jointly.

Afripol is a technical institution of the African Union with a mandate to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement agencies of member states in preventing and fighting transnational organized crime, terrorism and cybercrime. Its status was adopted by the AU Conference in January 2017 and took effect immediately.

The work schedule of the Ethiopian police delegation included talks with the Deputy Inspector General and Head of Criminal Investigation of the Kenyan National Police Service, Mohammed Al-Amin.

They also visited the Integrated Command Center and the Forensic Investigation Office, and expressed their willingness to exchange experiences on technologies, the source said.

The tour concluded at the East African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization headquarters in Nairobi and the Center of Excellence against Terrorism.
