The waterfall, about 30 meters high in one of the mountains of the Sierra Maestra and very close to the town of Cruce de los Baños, head of that demarcation, resumed its vigour after an extended period of drought due to the absence of the liquid in those foothills.
To the delight of the locals and visitors to this beautiful spot, the image of the waterfall has returned the main attraction to the tourist enclave, which has three natural pools and a motel in which the cabins and other facilities are harmoniously inserted in the bucolic landscape.
Among the recreational options are, in addition to bathing in crystal-clear waters, hiking, bird watching and horseback riding, which make it a privileged site for nature lovers.
The historical value is another magnetism of this mountainous demarcation that shelters, in the Loma de la Esperanza, the Mausoleum to the heroes and martyrs of the Third Eastern Front Mario Muñoz, which, commanded by Juan Almeida Bosque, was a bastion in the last stage of the insurrection struggle.
The rainfall that kept Santiaago’s territory in suspense for about 20 days left another positive balance in the filling of the 11 dams, which accumulated more than 60 percent of their capacity and thus overcame a severe stage of lack of rainfall.
When the meteorological situation begins to improve, the damage to agricultural crops, houses, roads and other economic and social infrastructures is being quantified.
