He pointed out that the European Union (EU) will hold a specific summit with the leaders of the Caribbean countries within the framework of the one already scheduled for July 17 and 18 in Brussels with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

He said that in the margins of the summit, they will hold a special summit with the Caribbean. He affirmed that the Caribbean will be the only region with which they will do this, and the objective will be to give a signal of increasing relations.

The EU official acknowledged that there is a push to have more involvement with these Caribbean countries, which are leading voices on the environment at the international level.

He also argued that the EU seeks more regular contact with the Caribbean countries in the style that the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada or China maintain with them through periodic meetings of their foreign ministers.

The EU-Celac summit to be held on July 17 and 18 in the Belgian capital, headquarters of the EU institutions, will be the first between the two regions in eight years.
