The first leg of her tour will be in Suriname, where she will stay until June 6 and will participate as a special guest to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in that South American country, Saurabh Kumar, secretary for East at the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a press conference.
Kumar described Murmu’s visit to Suriname as historic.
The diplomat noted that India and Suriname enjoyed warm and friendly relations, and emphasized the diaspora’s role as a bridge between the two nations.
Next, Murmu will travel to Serbia at the invitation of his counterpart, Aleksandar Vučić. She will be accompanied by a delegation of entrepreneurs, Sanjay Verm, secretary for West at the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.
Verm stated that it would be the first visit at the level of heads of State between India and Serbia.
The visit aims to explore the possibilities and prospects of business opportunities.
