South Africa hosts meeting of BRICS foreign ministers

Cape Town, South Africa, Jun 1 (Prensa Latina) South Africa is hosting a meeting for the ministers of Foreign and International Relations belonging to the member countries of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

South Africa considers the event, led by Naledi Pandor, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, as an opportunity for participants to focus on regional and global developments.

To this end, Pandor invited 15 foreign ministers from Africa and the global south to a “Friends of BRICS” meeting, so keeping with South Africa’s policy of inclusive engagement.

A delegation from Cuba, led by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, will participate in the summit. The general director of the General Management of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Foreign Ministry of Cuba, and the Cuban ambassador to South Africa are also part of the delegation.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Cuba is represented for the first time at a BRICS summit, and this time it is represented as President of the G-77 plus China.

The meeting of Ministers is part of the preparations for the BRICS Heads of State Summit to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, between August 22nd and 24th.
