Cuba calls Julio Cortazar Ibero-American Short Story Award

Havana, Jun 1 (Prensa Latina) The literary universe is waiting, as every year, for the writers who will submit their work to the Julio Cortazar Ibero-American Short Story Award, whose 21st edition opened in Cuba on Wednesday.

The Cuban Book Institute, the Havana-based Casa de las Americas, and the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC), under the auspices of the Argentinean Ministry of Culture, are organizing the competition to pay tribute to the Argentinean writer and encourage storytellers globally who write in the Spanish language.

Those interested should submit an unpublished story in Spanish on any topic, which has not been entered in any other contest and is not in the editorial process. Its length should not exceed 20 typewritten, double-spaced, paginated pages.

The works should be sent to premiocortazar@casa.cult.cu and laletradelescriba@gmail.com in Word or PDF formats before July 31, 2023. The author’s identity and location information must be attached in a separate document.

If the author prefers, the story may be sent on paper to the following address: Premio Iberoamericano de Cuento Julio Cortázar, Centro Cultural Dulce María Loynaz, 19 y E, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, La Habana, Cuba.

The contest has Miguel Barnet as honorary president and poet Basilia Papastamatíu as general coordinator.

A jury of prominent authors and critics will evaluate the works and publicly announce their decision on September 12, 2023.
