Pimentel is deemed as one of the foremost painters of his generation, the ministry said in a statement.

“We´ve lost a referent of the national plastic arts who has represented us with dignity worldwide,” according to the Culture Minister Milagros German.

Pimentel´s deaths leaves an irreparable void in the art world: “Pimentel captivated us with his innovative work, challenging limits and exploring new dimensions,” she added.

His works were exhibited in France, Sweden, Spain, England, Cuba and Denmark, among other countries.

In February 2023, the French Senate granted him a recognition for his contributions to culture, trajectory and link with France; in that country he was also awarded the Ville de Virtry prize in 1982.
