China and US to expand communication on economic and trade issues

comercio-china-eeuu
Beijing, May 26 (Prensa Latina) China and the United States have reportedly agreed to establish communication channels to address specific concerns on trade, economy and cooperation, issues that suffer the effects of bilateral discord.

A statement from the Ministry of Commerce pointed out that this consensus emerged from the talks held in Washington between Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo a few hours ago.

According to the Chinese representative, the parties held “frank and substantive” discussions on the links in their sector to review the existing conditions for investment and business operations in both countries.

Wang raised concerns about the US trade and economic policy toward China, particularly laws restricting technology exports and foreign investment on US soil.

Raimondo complained about China’s actions against US companies but expressed her willingness to make rapprochement progress, as Presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping agreed in November 2022.

The two commerce chiefs also agreed that their meeting was part of an ongoing effort to maintain contact and manage the relationship responsibly.

China and the United States are taking new steps to finally solve and move away from the differences that triggered a trade war in 2018 with damaging consequences for both countries and the world.
