African literary tradition present in Cuba

Havana, May 25 (Prensa Latina) Under the title "Dynamics of the African literary tradition," a panel dedicated to Yoruba poet and Cuban ethnologist, Rogelio Martínez Furé takes place at the Havana-based Casa de las Americas on Thursday.

According to the program, at the event, the Manuel Galich Hall of that cultural institution presents the Digital Library of African and African Diaspora Literature.

After the ceremony, several panelists will speak about the tradition coming from the great continent and all that this culture represents for Cuba.

The gathering, a tribute to Martínez Furé and the African peoples’ customs, will also include a lecture entitled “Afro-futurism and African futurism: an alternative to cultural colonialism,” with a bold vision of the religiosity, traditions, idiosyncrasy, and values of Africa´s ethnic groups.

The reading of “Cimarrón de Palabras” will take place in the afternoon as part of the International Festival of this artistic expression, and also a reminder of the 60th anniversary of Yoruba poetry.

The outstanding Cuban intellectual, who died in 2022, was praised for his work as an Africanist, oral narrator, writer, and poet, but also as a dancer and singer.
