The functionary told TASS news agency on Wednesday that Moscow intends to secure its interests, and achieve Russia’s objectives, either through the special military operation or other available means. Peskov added that it is premature to talk about which of the plans for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, proposed by different countries, is preferable for Russia, and whether Russia has its own version of this plan.
“So far, there are no preconditions for a peaceful settlement, obviously. The special military operation continues negotiations with Kiev are unlikely now because the Ukrainian authorities themselves forbid any negotiations with Russia,” he asserted.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated previously that peace talks on the situation around Ukraine should not aim to freeze the conflict.
Representatives of other Western countries also expressed a similar position. On May 22nd, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described as wrong any peace plan that does not consider returning to Ukraine the territories it has lost, and that it will only lead to the freezing of the conflict.
Kiev also stated that peace initiatives should not implicate freezing the conflict.
