Moscow, May 22 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Sergei Butin deputy foreign minister on Monday, according to a decree issued by the Russian presidential office.

The statement said that by another decree, Putin abolished the post of deputy foreign minister for the fight against terrorism, previously held by Oleg Syromolotov, who was removed from his post. At the same time, the number of deputy foreign ministers allowed remains at 10.

Bunin is 59 years old and he has been working in Russia’s diplomatic service since 1996. He has held various positions in the Foreign Ministry’s central office and abroad.

Since 2013 Butin headed the secretariat of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and since 2017 he combined this position with that of director of the General Secretariat of the Foreign Ministry.
