According to Prensa Latina, the medium and high-powered technology will initially outreach harvesters of the Credit and Service Cooperatives (CCS) in Cabaiguan municipality, who will receive them through a financing scheme that accounts for one percent of the payment of the harvest in freely convertible currency (MLC).
Isidro Hernandez, agricultural director of the local corporation, told to reporters that the equipment -10 tractors- is mainly intended to support the production of covered tobacco, where a significant growth has been reported in the latest campaigns.
Even though a bigger coverage of technical means is required, Hernandez commented, the arrival of such equipment allows boosting the preparation of lands, as well as using these tractors in the transfer of the harvest to the curing houses and other indispensable resources during the tobacco campaign.
According to Tabacuba, some 270 tractors were received, 45 of which were allocated to Pinar del Rio, a territory that provides 60-70 percent of the country’s tobacco, and over 20 to the provinces of Sancti Spiritus, Villa Clara and Cienfuegos.
