Cuban Government ackowledges family doctors’ work

Havana, May 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero on Friday congratulated and acknowledged the work of family doctors, on behalf of the Government and the people, on the occasion of their World Day.

Through his Twitter account, Marrero highlighted the work of “those heroes in white coats of our communities, always aware of their patients, on the front line of the National Health System”.

World Family Doctor Day has been celebrated around the world since 2010, at the initiative of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA).

One of the main objectives of the commemoration is to highlight the role and contribution of these specialists in health care systems around the world.

In Cuba, the Family Doctor and Nurse Program is immersed in a process of improvement to increase the quality of life of citizens and their satisfaction with this service. There are 451 polyclinics in Cuba, with 11,548 clinics, 3,507 of which are located in rural areas, including 1,015 in the Turquino Plan and 7,763 in urban areas.

There are 11,270 family doctor and nurse offices in communities, the rest are in educational centers, universities and workplaces.
