Extending the validity of the Cuban passport from six to ten years, eliminating extensions, and equalizing the length of stay in Cuba for foreign relatives with Cuban residents abroad, among others, are intended to facilitate our participation in the political, economic, and social life of the country, according to a press release.
The Coordinating Committee, consisting of associations that defended Cuba and its revolution on French soil, framed the decisions in the path of rapprochement and dialogue, undertaken in 1978 under the guidance of leader Fidel Castro (1926-2016).
We have actively participated in several debates in France to achieve some of these changes since the 1st Meeting of Cuban Residents in Europe (ECRE) was held in Paris in May 2006 and other events, the Coordinating Committee pointed out. It also appreciated its members’ contributions to consultations with Cuban residents abroad on the Constitution of the Republic approved in 2019 and the new Family Code approved in 2022, in both cases after popular referendums.
In addition to accompanying the migration measures, the Coordinating Committee reiterated in the text its condemnation of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.
