Sociologist Agustín Burbano assured in statements to Prensa Latina that Ecuador wins in the long run with this decision by overcoming the conflict existing between the Executive and the Legislative.
He said that the expected transition in the event of success in dismissing Lasso via impeachment did not offer a real possibility of solving the country’s problems, because the person who would assume office would be Lasso’s vice president, Alfredo Borrero.
Looking ahead to the upcoming date of the elections, tentatively scheduled for August 20th, Burbano assured that the Citizen Revolution (RC) movement is the political force in the best conditions.
He also considered that the representative quality of the organization began to rise, after the leader of the RC, former president Rafael Correa (2007-2017), retook a strongly marked political strategy of questioning Lasso about a year ago.
At the moment, RC is the most organized movement, with the best display in alternative media. Adding all of this to the good results of last February 5th, the RC is at the forefront for these extraordinary elections, Burbano stressed.
However, he reminded that the elections were organized by the same National Electoral Council (CNE), the same Electoral Dispute Tribunal (TCE), the same Attorney General’s Office, the same press and other institutions that proscribed RC leaders. Without their illegal interventions, Lasso would have had more difficulties winning in 2021, the sociologist stressed.
