This socio-cultural project preserves the largest collection of guayaberas, including those of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, Venezuelan former President Hugo Chavez, and the current Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, among other politicians and intellectuals.
In the context of the sixteenth edition of the Conference, which is taking place in Sancti Spiritus, Mariela Castro handed over the piece of clothing that she has worn on many occasions and now joins those of her parents, Army General Raul Castro, leader of the Revolution, and the heroine Vilma Espin, which had been previously received.
During the transfer, she commented on her collaboration for the local breakthrough of this project, a must-see site for locals and foreign visitors, Castro noted.
The museum, she assured, is a very interesting initiative that will be able to count on her contribution to continue enriching the collection with donations from relevant personalities.
She told that her mother promoted wearing guayaberas in congresses and other activities of the Federation of Cuban Women, in addition to their production through groups of women’s cooperatives to maintain domestic textile and handicraft traditions.
