Frente Amplio points out deficient management of water in Uruguay

Montevideo, May 18 (Prensa Latina) The Frente Amplio (FA) considers the drinking water crisis that the country is suffering today is poorly handled by the Uruguayan government, particularly in Montevideo and the metropolitan area.

This is the result of the positions expressed by the FA senators’ bench during an interpellation to several ministers and the board of directors of Obras Sanitarias del Estado (OSE).

In this regard, the FA advocated the creation of a crisis committee made up of political parties to collaborate in providing a solution to the problem, associated with the persistent drought the country is passing through.

According to legislator Enrique Rubio, social and academic actors should also participate and urged to start “a process of dialogue and national agreement to carry out major works with a perspective towards 2045”.

The Front of the Alliance bench urged President Luis Lacalle Pou to relieve from their posts:the head of OSE, Raúl Montero, and the vice-president of that entity, Susana Montaner.

Rubio told the press that his party proposed measures to the Executive, whose communication policy on the problem he criticized as it ignored the need for citizen participation.
