Syrians pay tribute to Jose Marti

Damascus, May 18 (Prensa Latina) Syrians and Cubans on Thursday paid tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti (1853-1895) on the 128th anniversary of his fall in combat in Dos Rios.

The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Damascus, where wreaths were laid at the monument erected in honor of Marti, alias the Apostle of Cuban independence.

The consul and third secretary at the Embassy, Emilio Pevido, gave a brief speech, in which he highlighted the values and the work left by Marti as a poet, essayist, journalist and founder of the Cuban Revolutionary Party (PRC).

Jose Marti’s anti-imperialist thought has been valid for over a century after his physical disappearance.

Currently, we have been witnessing how US imperialism has constantly threatened not only Latin America but also all continents, the diplomat noted.

Pevido noted that both Syria and Cuba are witnesses of the US illegal presence, which is evidence of its imperialist and hegemonic pretensions.
