A week before celebrations for Flag Day, symbol of national unity, Prime Minister Henry called for consensus among all those who have a patriotic fiber and want to see Haiti emerge quickly from the current situation which is worsening every single day.
Haiti´s crisis has a negative impact on nationals´ nutritional health, said Henry, while nearly five million Haitians face food insecurity. Child hunger climbed by 30% over last year, according to UN data.
Prime Minister Henry assured that Haitians´ nutrition level is one of his administration´s major concerns, and regretted the alarming conditions in which several municipalities.
In this regard, PM Henry pledged to plan interventions on all fronts to crack down on food insecurity.
“I reaffirm. My government is committed to mobilize as many resources as possible to enable ministries and administrations deeply involved to work effectively in rolling out planned nutritional interventions aimed at significantly bending the curve of food insecurity statistics,” Henry promised.
On Thursday, UNICEF outlined a bleak picture revealing that child malnutrition grew by 30% over last year, while warning that over 115,600 Haitian children could suffer from severe acute malnutrition in 2023, compared to 87,500 in 2022.
According to UNICEF, one in five Haitian children currently suffers from malnutrition in several communes of the metropolitan area, ravaged by armed groups.
