Heritage book builds bridges of friendship between Cuba and France

Paris, May 12 (Prensa Latina) The book "Cienfuegos, La Perla de Cuba" (Cienfuegos, The Pearl of Cuba) is a patrimonial work that builds bridges of friendship and reinforces the historical bonds between Cuba and France, Irán Millán, a conservator of that Cuban city, stated on Friday.

In statements to Prensa Latina in this capital, where he is carrying out a busy program, Millán highlighted the French edition as a tool to strengthen bilateral ties and promotion of the cultural treasures of Cienfuegos.

The Cuban city of Cienfuegos was founded by French settlers in 1819. Its Historic Urban Center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.

According to the conservator, the aforementioned heritage has been a long-standing wish of Cienfuegos citizens and researchers, as it gathers the history of that port city.

This text is also a tribute to the city and recognition to its specialists, who have contributed to an identity stamp, the authors’ coordinator said.

Millán thanked the Cuba Cooperation France Association (CubaCoop), involved in several socio-economic development projects in the southern city, for enabling the French edition of the book and its support for almost two decades.

UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations Firmin Edouard Matoko, and Director of the World Heritage Center, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, attended the launching of the book.
