“Out, Lasso out” and “Out narco Lasso” were the slogans echoed by those who gathered outside the Parliament and called for the end of his mandate given his inability to solve the country’s problems.
In addition to the formal accusations at the Assembly, we want Lasso out of power because there is greater insecurity, difficulties with employment, in addition to his corruption and drug trafficking involvement, Rosa Pacheco, one of the participants in the sit-in, told Prensa Latina.
Social organizations like the Comité 2 de Octubre and the Asamblea Nacional Ciudadana, called for the protest to show legislators the feelings of Ecuadorians about the procedure.
Lawmaker Viviana Veloz expressed the Ecuadorian people deserve justice because we have proven Lasso´s political responsibility.
The Government insists Lasso is innocent, while accusation blames him for knowing about irregularities in the agreement reached between the state-owned Flota Petrolera Ecuatoriana (FLOPEC) and the company Amazonas Tanker.
It seems that opposition will be supported by 70% of the votes to dismiss Lasso, although members of Izquierda Democrática (Democratic Left) said they would abstain.
