Luis Garcia, general manager of Cruz Canela & Trust GB S.A. and Casa del Habano Costa Rica, said on Saturday evening that they chose the Romeo y Julieta brand because its name is a relevant work of world literature, written by English playwright William Shakespeare.

Garcia stated that those cigars were named in 1875 because there is a custom in Cuba’s cigar factories to have a cigar reader, who reads books to the cigar rollers during their work shift, and one of those books was “Romeo and Juliette.”

As cigar rollers liked this literary classic so much, they named brand “Romeo y Julieta” in honor of the romantic drama.

We will also taste Montecristo cigars to pay tribute to the adventure novel and one of the most popular classics of all time, The Count of Montecristo, by French writer Alexandre Dumas.

So, we will have a day of cigars and books because people like to read, and many of us love good cigars. Cuban cigars are the best in the world,” Garcia pointed out.
