Serbian president describes NATO as a threat to his country

Belgrade, Apr 21 (Prensa Latina) Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić described the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as a threat to his country, TV Prva reported on Friday.

According to Vučić, Western officials insist on offering Serbia to be a member of the military bloc and talk about the alleged Russian threat; the Atlantic Alliance is a challenge to his country’s security.

The Serbian president said they told us to join NATO because Russia would endanger everyone. We cannot join NATO because it intimidates us.

Belgrade followed a policy of military neutrality in 2007 when the National Assembly (Serbian Parliament) adopted a resolution in this respect.

In recent years, the country has conducted joint exercises with the Russian Federation and as well with the European alliance.
