This is a significant moment for Cuba, as it will coincide with an anniversary of the 1961 victory over a mercenary brigade that invaded Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs) and the installation of the 10th Legislature of the National People’s Power Assembly.
The head of the Vietnamese Parliament is one of the four pillars of leadership in the country and will be the first foreign delegation in Havana after the inauguration of the next Cuban legislature, another milestone in relations between the two countries.
Vuong Dinh Hue’s official visit is considered a visit from a brother, who will receive special attention, as well as his delegation.
In any case, it will be the fourth occasion in which a Vietnamese parliamentary president visits Cuba so far in the 21st century. He was preceded by Nguyen Van An, in 2006; Nguyen Phú Trọng (current secretary general of the VCP), in 2010, and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan (2016).
Vuong Dinh Hue will be the first foreign parliamentary chief to congratulate whoever is elected speaker of Cuba’s National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament).
