sudan-conflicto
Cairo, Apr 17 (Prensa Latina) Arab and African countries are trying to stop the fighting in Sudan, which has caused almost 100 deaths and hundreds of wounded since Saturday.

This weekend, there were numerous telephone talks, both face-to-face and virtual meetings between high-ranked authorities from the region, who are trying to find a solution to this crisis.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke separately with his South Sudanese counterpart, Salva Kiir, and with the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry spoke with his Sudanese counterpart, Ali Al-Sadiq, with the head of the African Union Commission, Moussa Fak; and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

The Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, exchanged with Guterres about the situation in Sudan after the outbreak of fighting between the Army and the Rapid Support Forces.

The Arab League held an extraordinary meeting on Sunday to address the issue. After the debates, the League called on the parties in conflict, to stop the bloodshed and hold talks.

Members of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, a regional economic bloc, advocated for “an immediate cessation of hostilities.” They also agreed to send the presidents of Kenya, South Sudan and Djibouti to Khartoum to mediate between the parties in conflict.

A meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union is scheduled for this Monday to discuss the situation in Sudan.
